Aaron Gerds is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Cleveland, US, and Deputy Director for Clinical Research at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. He also serves as Deputy Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and is the Principal Investigator of the Case’s National Cancer Institute (NCI) Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) grant. Dr Gerds is the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of ASH Clinical News and currently serves as Hematologic Oncology Associate Editor for the ASCO Educational Book, section editor for Up-to-Date, and Chair of the NCCN Guidelines Panel for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms. 

His clinical and research efforts focus on optimizing existing therapies and advancing new treatments for patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and other myeloid malignancies. He is an active clinical trialist and national leader in MPN research, with work published in journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature Medicine, and Blood. Known for blending clinical insight with editorial storytelling, his writing often explores the intersection of medicine, technology, culture, and the human side of hematology. In addition to his scientific work, his editorial writing has received national recognition, including a 2026 Communicator Award for “Fax Machines, Hockey Sticks, and AI: How Health Care Can Evolve with Technology”.
